Wine

Teusner The Dog Strangler Mataro is named for the French estrangle-chien, a term used for the Mataro grape. It stems from the belief that the thick skins and harsh tannins of the variety are almost enough to choke a dog.

Select parcels of old vine Mataro are sourced across Vine Vale, Greenock, Moppa and Ebenezer in the Barossa Valley. They are handpicked and vinified separately.

Each picking bin is crushed one at a time before undergoing open fermentation. The ferments are closely monitored to ensure their colour, flavour and aromas develop properly. After pressing the wine matures in oak for around 12 months.

Dark blood red, Teusner The Dog Strangler Mataro is medium to full bodied, with rich fruit flavours, supple tannins and savoury spices. Cellaring potential is seven years.
